Why is Iran angry?
The Indian newspaper Indian Express has written that, angry with this video clip, Iran contacted the ORF and the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs through its embassy in Delhi and objected to showing the presidentâs photo in the same frame as the protesters.
He asked for the video clip to be removed but the organizers of Rai Sena Dialogue refused to do so.
Angry with this decision, the Tehran government told the organizers that Foreign Minister Amir Abdullahian will not join the Rai-Sena dialogue.
It should be noted that last September in Iran, a series of protests started across the country against the death of an Iranian woman Mehsa Amini in the custody of the moral police. The protesters are opposing the governmentâs strict rules regarding the hijab. During these protests, at some places, women cut their hair as a protest.
Interestingly, India has not commented on these protests so far.
Last November, Germany and the Netherlands proposed to the United Nations Human Rights Commission to establish a fact-finding mission to investigate serious human rights violations in Iran. 25 countries voted in favor of it, seven opposed it while 16 countries abstained from voting, including India.
